3 weeks of work, white wines and champaigns

this 3 weeks are one of the hardest times of my life i ever experienced, its oso the time where i feel so completely helpless and idiot, where even the simplest tasks like delivering drinks and remembering table numbers are mixed up by me... its oso the time when i felt dat we jc students are too bloody arrogant in our own elitist world of our own, and that there are actually tons of work done by the 'lower' classes... this 3 weeks i learned alot of new stuff, and learnt to be more humble, and learnt that actually a paper qualification is actually nothing without the correct work attitude and inter-personal relationship skills... people respect you by the contributions u have done, and seniors and superiors want humble and fast learning juniors and apprentices rather den quick talking and 'smart' thinking jc students... i guessed i being blur yet willing to learn is a good thing, i got scolded by the seniors and team captain the most, but i oso integrated with the bar the most i guessed... i am satisfied with my job, though the pay is little and hours are long

i dunno wad to write already, so i might as well write something about alcohol... i shall write abt wines today... wines there are 3 types of wines, there are red wines, white wines and rose wines. my wine knowledge is very basic and i seldom taste them myself so dun bank on me for info...

my favourite are white wines, cos they are differentiated very greatly according to the 'flavour' and aftertaste they produce. sweet wines are french or german riesling, dry whites are chardonnay from the french place call chablis (pronounced without the s) and smooth wines are savignon blanc. can be drunk chilled or still temperature

champaigns are sparkling wines, sparkling because they are like soft drinks and haf gases (CO2) in the liquids, and great care must be taken to open the bottle, for if mishandled, the flying cork will hit and injure someone, and can blind someone if hit in the eye... proper and classy way of opening it is wif a soft pop sound and no foam spilling out if the bottle, and to achieve dat requires minimal shaking.

actually the real skill is not in opening wine bottles, but in pouring wine out of their bottle into the tiny little glasses, one haf to use a single hand to grasp the bottle in a weird yet professional looking way which has absurdly little grip, perhaps i had not perfected it, not only dat, but oso the pouring of the liquids cannot spill out and drip out of the glasses, its easy to say, but difficult to master and accomplish, even my seniors fail that sometimes...

wines and their related fields are extremely difficult to accomplish in just 3 weeks, further more i merely tasted the champaigns from leftovers to learn... its not easy, so salutions to all wine connoiseurs and to all waiters and waitresses!!!

1st day at work and a flying martini please...

i had my 1st day of work in my life yesterday... it was extremely tiring... from 3pm to 2am, a total of 11 hours!!! hahahaz... working at grand hyatt mezzer9 bar now... working wif my classmates, yikling, junhong and jeff... hahahaz... it is fun, i get to know alot of new colleagues today, whom i will describe in further detail on another entry...

my job scope would clearing of ash trays, taking orders, describing orders, serving drinks, clearing glasses, throwing out the trash, taking stock, clearing the bill, and my most favourite, recieving tips... wahahahaz i hate to serve drinks, i hate the teas and coffees... they come fine and heavy porceiline and its so damn heavy and hot, and i also haf trembling hands, so i would spill alittle everytime i serve those items... i like the wines and alcohol beverages better... sometimes guests would ask for wines and champaigns you have not even imagined before, and i would have to smile at them, and ask the senior fulltimers there...

i consider myself lucky today, on my first day, i am able to clock OT!!! though its tiring, but hey, who doesn't like the extra $$$... hahahaz the more i earn, the more accomplished i felt... hahahaz the bigger and better the present i can get for my crush on for christmas... actually, i have 2 goals to achieve for working, one is to earn at least $3000 by april, and the other is to be able to buy gifts and treat my crush to nice nice things... hahahaz :D for her and my 3000 bucks goal, i am extremely willing to take on almost any challenge i face in the bar... if i have the time, i might even research on the cigars and the wines and finer techniques of handling glasses, so that i can do more, you noe... and perhaps the manager might even up my pay!!! hahhahaz

as usual, i did something stupid everytime i have an new experience and today is no different... this early morning, there was a birthday bash at 12am, and it was a group of hip and funky musicians, and i saw shiek haikal there... hahahaz... u noe, the fat malay rapper wif a afro hairdo and his model wif annabelle francis. i too saw some extremely hot ladies, a pity they all smoked, hahahaz and abit too old for me...so there was this decent looking lady who was within the party group, and she ordered a dirty martini, and so i served the drink... the martini glass is horrendous, it is a glass which is very unstable, imagine a wine glass, but much sleeker and a longer neck, so the c.g. is too high... as i placed a coaster on the table for the lady, i tilted my tray and the dirty martini slid off the tray edge and went flying!!! whoa...i never even realised it till i felt dat my hand is wet and i heard a sharp glass 'crack'... thank whoever is up there i did not break the martini glass... but woe to another lady sitting opposite for me, i splashed the martini all over her feet... hahahaz, i was so embarrased... i apologised and apologised and apologised... hahahaz thankfully the lady juz laugh it off, i feel that i gonna be sacked soon if i am ever so clumsy again... oh ya, in addition to the flying martini, i spilled 1 hot chocolate, and 2 tea in the afternoon...

another interesting incident would be that of tipping, i got tipped $2 hahahaz... datz little i noe, and i contributed to the staff tipping fund, and junhong got tipped $10... hahahaz... why the difference? cos the tip came from a bunch of 'metrosexuals', you know those who like guys... wahahahaz i shall explain no further... i wouldn't wanna be tipped for allowing guys to caress my hand or slap my butt... wahahaz... junhong, u r the best...

anlin, i m so sorry i can't help u clinch the job, i ask the manager as often as i could ok? sorry...

Clubbing, a sprained foot

Yesterday night went clubbing with shiyin, xiaomei, manwei, jiahui, zhaorong and bingyao... it was a enjoyable experience, and the mountain tortoise learned a lot of new stuff... The disco did not start till 2230 and we came in chinablack at 2100... we waited for 1hr for it to start... very sian den... but when the party starts, its whoa...... guys start doing weird yet cool movements wif their body, and the girls began gyrating their bodies to the groove. the clubbing veterans den began climbing onto the bartop and start dancing there as well... its damn awesome seeing ppl so absorbed into the dancing... 2245, xiao mei, shiyin and her 2 classmates, elizabeth and joycelyn, began entering the dance floor and began dancing, though more sedate den the bartop gers... i m glad of that u noe, or else would haf ruined my impression of them... 2300, bingyao and i have alredy studied the dance moves of the other party goers and started to make way for the gers... its only 1/2 an hr into the party, and the floor is packed... one couldn't believe the synergy there is on a dance floor till one experienced it on the dance floor, its unimaginable, the loud music, which i find ear piercing 1/2 an hr before, is affecting me in a strange way... i start moving and swaying automatically to the music, letting my hair down and not caring of how obiang i may look... after another half hr of serious fidgetting and shivering on the dance floor, we felt lethargic and made way for zhaorong and jiahui, who had been in the sidelines watching...

the drinks are very interesting... its 7-up vodkha... i tot it would be very strong and intoxcating... actually it was, the first gulp, den it gets less potent to me... i dunno why, maybe a psychological thingie... maybe it was potent, after i gulped down my 1st glass of alcohol, i returned to the dance floor to join bingyao and others... dat'z when the accident happened... as i walked towards the dancefloor, i took of my glasses, hoping to look dashing and also to remove the need to push up my glasses when i dance... chinablack is also very very dark, and i forget there are steps, so i sort of twisted my ankle as i slipped down the steps... its a bad sprain... i heard a loud and long crack... and i got to hobble back to our 'base' of recovery... its painful painful!!! i had to massage my foot or else, its would be a waste of $$$... soon zhaorong, jiahui and bingyao left, leaving me and 4 gers... datz so not fun... hahahaz... and so the party went on... the rest of the party and how i got home, is insignificant... despite the sprain and the tough time finding transport home, i will definately go clubbing again, but wif more $$$ 1st la...
